About MistyWest
MistyWest is a hardware engineering consultancy that exists to create novel technologies that enable a healthier planet and bring prosperity to all humankind, with a focus primarily on hardware projects that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Role
MistyWest is hiring a 4–8 month Co-op Student for the Summer 2026 term (starting May) who has a mixed discipline background in mechatronics - preferably leaning towards mechanical and electrical engineering.
You will be working alongside a team mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineers on real client projects — from early concept and prototyping through to testing and iteration. You'll contribute to electromechanical design challenges across a variety of industries, getting exposure to the full product development cycle.
Depending on the project, that could mean CAD modeling, circuit design, hands-on prototype assembly, embedded programming, running experiments and data analysis, laboratory testing or all of the above.
**Requirements**
Candidates applying **are not** expected to meet all of the requirements listed. For applications please highlight examples related to some of the following:
* Interest in research and development phase of product development
* Working knowledge of electrical design for digital circuits and integration of microcontrollers
* Can use electronic lab tools: oscilloscope, soldering, adjustable power supplies
* Can use desktop 3D printers (FDM, SLA)
* Experience using 3D CAD design (Solidworks, OnShape)
* Have designed mechanical components in a few of the following fabrication methods: machining, sheet metal, 3D printing, injection molding, laser/water-jet cutting
* Familiarity with PCB design from schematic capture to layout (Altium bonus points)
* Familiarity with spectrometers and data analysis
