**About the Role:**
We are looking for a highly motivated Data Engineer Intern to support end-to-end data engineering initiatives across cloud platforms. You will work closely with senior data engineers and architects on real-world projects involving data modeling, pipeline development, ingestion frameworks, and modern data warehouse/Lakehouse solutions.
This role is ideal for someone who understands foundational data concepts and is eager to gain hands-on experience building scalable data systems using Azure and/or AWS.
**What You’ll Do:**
Data Engineering \& Pipeline Development
* Assist in building end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines from scratch using cloud-native tools.
* Support data ingestion from structured and semi-structured sources into cloud data platforms.
* Work on Azure Data Factory (ADF) and/or AWS data services to orchestrate and manage workflows.
* Help implement Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers) for structured data transformation.
* Participate in optimizing SQL queries and improving pipeline performance.
Data Modeling \& Architecture Support
* Support dimensional data modeling using Star and Snowflake schemas.
* Contribute to Data Warehouse and Data Lakehouse design discussions.
* Assist in defining data structures aligned with reporting and analytics needs.
* Help validate data quality and ensure consistency across datasets.
Cloud \& Platform Exposure
Gain hands-on experience with:
* Azure (Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, ADLS)
* and/or
* AWS (S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena)
Understand cloud data storage patterns and pipeline orchestration concepts.
Operational \& Documentation Support
* Document pipeline logic, transformation steps, and architecture diagrams.
* Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, and agile ceremonies.
* Assist in troubleshooting and resolving pipeline failures under senior guidance.
Data \& Analytics Focus
Build foundational understanding of:
* Data Warehousing concepts
* ETL vs ELT frameworks
* Medallion (Bronze, Silver, Gold) architecture
* Star \& Snowflake schemas
* SQL-driven transformations
* Data Lakehouse principles
Support initiatives ensuring data reliability, quality, and structured delivery.
Operational Excellence
* Follow Calfus engineering best practices and coding standards.
* Maintain clean documentation for pipelines and transformations.
* Continuously learn and apply feedback from mentors and project leads.
**On Your First Day, We’ll Expect You to Have:**
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (recent graduate) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
* Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases.
* Basic knowledge of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling.
* Foundational understanding of cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS preferred).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Eagerness to learn modern data engineering tools and frameworks.
Nice to Have
* Exposure to Azure Data Factory or AWS Glue.
* Academic or personal projects involving ETL pipelines.
* Basic knowledge of Python or PySpark.
* Familiarity with Power BI or other visualization tools.
