**Organisation:** Leicestershire County Council **Work Location:** County Hall, Glenfield, LE3 8RA **Salary:** £25,191 - £28,146 per annum (Pro rata for part time) **Working Hours:** Full Time, 37 Hours per week. **Contract Type:** Permanent **Closing Date:** Sunday 22nd March 2026 **Interview Date(s):** TBC Are you interested in artificial intelligence, chatbots, and automation, and looking to begin your career in technology and software development within the public sector? We are seeking an Assistant Technical Specialist to join our Agile Development Team, supporting the design and development of innovative automation and artificial intelligence solutions, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure. This role is ideal for someone with a solid technical foundation, a curiosity for AI-driven solutions, and a desire to learn from experienced developers in a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment working towards a Junior Developer role. **About the Role** We are looking for enthusiasm, curiosity, and a commitment to learning, rather than extensive experience. You will work alongside experienced developers and technical specialists to help design, build, test, and support solutions using Python, Microsoft Azure, and chatbot technologies. You will be given structured support, mentoring, and learning opportunities while contributing to real projects that support public services and organisational efficiency. **About You** * Basic to intermediate knowledge of Python, JavaScript/React, Prompt Engineering gained through study, training, apprenticeships, or personal projects * An interest in AI, chatbots, agentic processes, or automation, with a desire to build skills in these areas * Awareness of Microsoft Azure and cloud concepts, particularly services related to AI and automation (training and support will be provided) * Some experience or exposure to lowcode or automation tools such as PowerApps/Power Automate or similar platforms * Understanding of fundamental AI and Machine Learning concepts, such as how models are used and where they can add value * Basic knowledge of SQL/Cosmos Databases, APIs, data formats (e.g. JSON) and system integration concepts * Ability to work collaboratively as part of an Agile development team, following guidance and best practices * Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical ideas in a clear and approachable way A strong willingness to learn, develop new skills, and take feedback constructively * In addition, we also expect you to share our commitment to our values and to delivering accessible and inclusive services which meet the needs of all of our residents.
