AI Systems Engineer (Intern)
Role Description
Are you interested in AI agents and want to get ahead of what is now not only a trend, but an essential workplace skill? Do you have a coding background but are not sure how AI agents will shape the future of technical entry-level jobs? Do you have an interest in public transit and making affordable housing accessible for more people?
If any or all of these questions are a "yes" for you, consider making this summer a deep dive of AI agents in app development and other use cases! Come help build a public transit access and real estate consumer app, learn how to manage teams of agents, gain exposure to version control workflows, and produce a separate personal project that you can show to future employers.
**Qualifications:**
* At least two courses combined from the following subject areas: computer science, economics, operations research, civil engineering, public policy, statistics;
* Technical and policy-oriented mindset;
* Strong organization and communication skills;
* Most importantly, interest in AI tools and exploring frontier models collaboratively.
This is a **8-10 week remote or hybrid internship**, between **20-40 hours per week**.
This program is best suited for first or second year undergraduate students who are able to get internship funding through their educational institution. If this is not the case, feel free to apply and we can discuss competitive compensation options. As a baseline, the position covers the structure of the summer catered to the individual student, compensation for travel and entry to tech conferences, networking opportunities in tech and econ consulting spaces, a Claude Code Max subscription ($200\), and Claude API credits for personal use.
**Below is a sample schedule you could look forward to (subject to change per individual experience):**
Week 1 - Working directories, version control using Git and GitHub, getting set up with Claude Code (skills, instructions, frameworks)
Week 2 - Introduction to the app/software, geospatial analysis, real estate economics, teams of agents [Optional challenge: build a Geoguessr AI bot]
Week 3 - RAG servers, MCPs, and third party integrations, large scale data analysis, app development
Week 4 - App development
Week 5 - Natural language processing, AI agent benchmarks, AI “societies” like Moltbook, app development [Optional challenge: replicate Moltbook on a smaller scale but in a different medium or domain]
Week 6 - AI bias, model tweaking, app development
Week 7 - App development
Week 8 - Prepare for and enter a hackathon or conference, personal project planning
Week 9 - Personal project development
Week 10 - Personal project deployment, wrap-up (travel to NYC area)
