Research Intern: Aerial Segmentation & Mapping
Role Description

Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US) is seeking a research-focused engineer knowledgeable in semantic segmentation and mapping techniques for remote-sensing applications. This role will support current projects focused on using drones to generate navigation maps and identifying goal positions for UGVs.

**Key Responsibilities**
* Develop a semantic segmentation model for aerial images from a birds-eye-view perspective.
* Explore novel approaches for handling unwanted segmentations via segmentation manipulation.
* Write a research paper on the work conducted to be published at a major robotics conference.
* Weekly meetings to discuss updates/ideas for the work being conducted.
**Minimum Qualifications**
* PhD candidate or postdoc in CS, CE, ME, or similar disciplines.
* Comfortable in Python and/or C\+\+ programming languages.
* Must have experience with training semantic segmentation models for remote sensing applications.
* Basic computer software: Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
**Bonus Qualifications**
* Published a paper in the field of remote-sensing at a major robotics conference.
* Knowledgeable in segmentation manipulation on high-resolution images.
* Experience with using real-world drone data for semantic segmentation.
* Experience with generating orthophotos using real-world drone images.
