Hardware/Software Prototyping Intern
Role Description
**Hardware/Software Prototyping Intern (2 to 4 Month Placement)**
**About AcoustoFab**
AcoustoFab is pioneering the next generation of lab automation and precision handling solutions through sound-based levitation technology. We are a deep-tech life sciences company building machines that move matter using sound waves. We operate at the intersection of acoustics, high performance computing, and real-world device engineering.
**Role Overview**
We are seeking a proactive Prototyping Intern for a paid, 2 to 4 month summer placement at our central London lab. This is a high-impact exploration role where you will help us investigate a potential new product category.
The core of this internship is to answer a specific feasibility question for a new product concept: can we build it, and does it work as expected? You will be responsible for building "low-fidelity" but functional prototypes that combine web technologies with embedded hardware.
You won't be working in a vacuum - you will have direct access to our founders, scientists, and engineers for mentorship and technical support across software, electronics, and physics.
**What You’ll Work On**
* Rapid Prototyping: Build functional hardware-software mock-ups and prototypes to validate and explore core technical concepts and questions.
* Frontend Web Stack: Develop prototype interfaces and software to control and monitor your hardware prototypes using a web technology stack on the desktop.
* Electronics \& Tinkering: Perform basic circuit assembly, breadboarding, soldering, and debugging of electronic components. Use platforms like Arduino or ESP32 to interface with physical components and sensors.
* Experimental Validation: Plan, design, and run tests on your prototypes, collect data, and communicate the results in order to help the team decide if the product concept is viable.
**Qualifications \& Skills**
**Required**
* Educational Background: Currently pursuing or recently graduated from a degree in Engineering (Electronic, Mechanical, Software), Robotics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
* Generalist Mindset: A "hacker" approach - you enjoy connecting diƯerent technologies to make things move and respond.
* Coding: Experience with programming fundamentals in Typescript, and either C\+\+ or Python, and an interest in learning more.
* Hands-on Attitude: Comfortable working with physical hardware, basic electronics, and prototyping tools.
**Nice to Have**
* Demonstrable experience building software using Typescript, React and Tailwind CSS.
* Demonstrable experience programming and configuring Arduino or similar microcontrollers.
* Experience using design tools like Figma to create low-fidelity mock-ups and wireframes
* Interest in acoustics, robotics or hardware/software systems
**What We OƯer**
* Paid Internship: Competitive monthly stipend for the duration of the internship.
* Real-World R\&D: The chance to work on a "greenfield" project that could shape the future of our product roadmap.
* Expert Mentorship: Work alongside world-class engineers in a collaborative, fast-moving startup environment.
* Lab Access: Hands-on experience with cutting-edge acoustic levitation technology in our London facility.
**Join Us**
If you’re excited about building things that have never existed before and want to spend your summer at the frontier of deep-tech, we’d love to hear from you.
