JOB OVERVIEW We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Computer Science Intern to assist with the design, development, and improvement of an AI-powered bot that supports the research, collection, organization, and summarization of bid opportunities for construction and sitework projects. This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate interested in software development, artificial intelligence, automation, and business process improvement. The intern will work closely with leadership and operational teams to help build tools that streamline how bid opportunities are identified, analyzed, and compiled. The position will involve a combination of software development, data structuring, research automation, testing, and process documentation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Assist in developing and improving an AI bot designed to research and compile project bid opportunities from various public and private sources. * Support the creation of workflows that gather, clean, organize, and summarize bid-related data for internal review. * Help design tools that identify relevant project information such as location, scope, due dates, bid requirements, contact information, and submission instructions. * Participate in building or improving scripts, automations, APIs, and data pipelines that support bid research and aggregation. * Assist with document parsing and extraction from PDFs, websites, spreadsheets, and related project files. * Support the testing, troubleshooting, and refinement of AI-generated outputs to improve accuracy, consistency, and usability. * Help develop prompt structures, logic flows, and decision trees for AI-assisted bid research and summarization. * Work with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions. * Organize findings into dashboards, spreadsheets, reports, or searchable repositories for use by estimating and operations teams. * Document system logic, workflows, technical processes, and recommended improvements. * Maintain confidentiality of company data, internal processes, and project-related information. * Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned. PREFERRED PROJECT EXPOSURE The intern may gain hands-on experience in: * AI-assisted research tools * Automation of repetitive administrative and estimating tasks * Natural language processing (NLP) * Data extraction and summarization * Workflow design and process improvement * Construction bid intake and opportunity tracking * Internal software/tool prototyping REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field * Basic understanding of programming fundamentals and software development practices * Familiarity with one or more programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or C# * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Ability to work with structured and unstructured data * Strong written and verbal communication skills * High attention to detail and ability to organize information clearly * Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Exposure to AI/ML concepts, LLM tools, or prompt engineering * Familiarity with APIs, web scraping, automation tools, or database concepts * Experience working with spreadsheets, CSV files, JSON, or basic data analysis * Interest in building internal business tools or workflow automations * Familiarity with Git, version control, or collaborative development environments * Interest in construction technology, operations, estimating, or business systems is a plus CORE COMPETENCIES * Technical curiosity and willingness to learn * Initiative and self-direction * Process-oriented thinking * Research and data organization * Critical thinking and quality control * Professionalism and discretion with sensitive information PHYSICAL / WORK REQUIREMENTS * Primarily office-based or hybrid work environment * Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use * Ability to attend meetings and collaborate with internal teams as needed WHAT THE INTERN WILL GAIN * Real-world experience applying computer science skills to business operations * Exposure to practical AI and automation use cases * Experience working on internal systems that support preconstruction and bidding functions * Mentorship and cross-functional collaboration with IT, operations, and estimating personnel * Opportunity to contribute to a meaningful tool that improves business efficiency Join us as a Computer Science Intern to develop your skills in a fast-paced environment while contributing to meaningful projects that support our company's success.
