Role Description

**Job Description** We are looking for a motivated intern to support a comparative Life Cycle Assessment evaluating the environmental impact of chemical manufacturing processes optimized using ZeroShotAPI compared to conventional approaches. ZeroShotAPI is an Innovate UK-funded project to develop machine learning models, trained on large-scale reaction datasets generated in our laboratory, to predict optimal starting conditions for key chemical transformations. So far, we have generated the data and models and are looking to quantify the sustainability benefits of our technology and to identify the key metrics to track for ongoing impact reporting, while validating and implementing the technology. Your analysis will shape how we communicate about environmental impact. **Responsibilities** - Support to define the scope, functional unit, and boundaries for a comparative LCA of selected reactions - Conduct a life cycle inventory (LCI), sourcing data for solvents, ligands, catalysts, reagents, energy inputs, and waste streams from databases and primary data from our experimental team - Build and run LCA models using appropriate software, focusing on key impact categories including carbon footprint (GWP), process mass intensity (PMI), and cumulative energy demand - Perform sensitivity analyses to identify the key parameters that influence environmental outcomes - Produce a clear, well-structured report, with supporting data and visualizations **Requirements** - Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master’s degree, PhD (or final year of undergraduate) in Environmental, Chemical, or Sustainable Process Engineering, or a closely related field. - Practical experience with LCA methodology and at least one LCA software tool - Solid understanding of life cycle inventory data and familiarity with databases such as Ecoinvent. - Ability to work independently, manage a defined project, and communicate progress proactively. - Strong analytical and quantitative skills; comfortable working with data - Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English **Desirable Skills** - Knowledge of organic chemistry, or pharmaceutical/fine chemical manufacturing processes. - Familiarity with green chemistry metrics like process mass intensity, E-factor, or atom economy. - Experience with Python-based LCA tools (e.g., Brightway2\) or data analysis libraries Pay: £24,420\.00-£54,796\.01 per year Work authorisation: * United Kingdom (required) Work Location: Hybrid remote in Cambridge CB1 1BH
