Role Description
**About Auror**
At Auror, we’re empowering the retail industry to tackle theft and Organised Retail Crime, a $150 Billion problem globally. It’s high volume crime that’s increasingly organised in nature and is putting people, retailers, and communities at risk every day.
Founded in New Zealand 13 years ago, we’re working with some of the best and largest retailers in the world across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.
Auror is connecting people and intelligence to reduce crime. We’re using technology for good.
In partnership with our leading retail partners, we need people with the passion, determination, and innovation required to overcome one of the world's largest problems. If you’re looking to make a difference with and for the people dedicated to stopping crime, for good, then we want you on our team.
We're also embracing the potential of AI to supercharge our impact—whether that's enhancing the way we detect trends, support our customers, or improve internal workflows. As a company, we're committed to responsibly incorporating AI into how we work and what we build, and we encourage all Aurors to be curious about how AI can elevate their work, regardless of role or function.
**About Auror Engineering**
Collaboration is at the heart of the Engineering team at Auror. We believe that we can only build the very best software by working with each other and seeking different perspectives to solve problems. We’re a team that:
* Ship code to production constantly: Our product team ships code to production on average at least 10-15 times a day prioritising small releases and short feedback cycles and we do this with a minimal defect rate.
* Work on cloud native architecture: We focus on delivering business value to customers, without the burden of maintaining complex infrastructure
* Work on innovative and up-to-date tech stacks: We are constantly evolving our technology stack inline with the needs of our business, leveraging React and Typescript for front-end and C# / Dotnet for back end. We host our services in Azure and utilise a wide range of cloud-native services with an evolving service-oriented architecture.
* Contribute to our product: We work with Product Management and Product Design from the very beginning to make sure we’re delivering value to our customers and making a meaningful impact.
* Supports a coaching culture: Together, we support one another to level up
* Continuously improve: We are relentless about getting better and improving our processes, tooling and tech stack.
**The Role**
We’re looking for a full stack Software Engineer to join our Actionable Intelligence stream in Product Engineering. In this role, you’ll help evolve our Insights experience, building features that enable customers to explore data, uncover patterns, and turn complex information into clear, actionable outcomes.
This is not a traditional dashboarding problem. You’ll work on a product that brings together multiple data sources in the retail crime environment and helps customers make sense of them. You’ll also contribute to innovative solutions that introduce more flexible, agent-like experiences, enabling users to ask questions of their data rather than rely solely on dashboards.
You’ll contribute across frontend and backend systems, taking well-defined problems from idea through to production, while continuing to build your technical depth, judgment, and independence in a supportive team environment.
**Location**
* This role is Auckland based.
**Practically this will involve:**
* Shipping customer-facing features that improve how users explore, understand, and act on data
* Owning delivery end-to-end, from shaping the approach with your team through to build, test, release, and production support
* Building clean, responsive UI in React \+ TypeScript, with attention to usability, performance, and real-world workflows
* Designing and extending backend services and APIs in C# / .NET
* Working with data-driven systems and contributing to how insights are surfaced in the product
* (Bonus) Exposure to tools like Cube/CubeJS and Snowflake, though prior experience isn’t required
* Making pragmatic decisions in a cloud-native environment (Azure \& GCP), balancing performance, reliability, and cost
* Breaking work into small, iterative increments so value is delivered continuously
* Debugging issues across the stack using logs, metrics, and user feedback
* Writing maintainable, well-tested code that the team can build on
* Collaborating closely with engineers, product, and design through pairing, reviews, and shared problem solving

**Georgia Barnett,**
**Engineering Lead**
I've spent the last decade as a software engineer across SaaS companies of different sizes, from large enterprise to early-stage start-ups. What I love about software engineering is the variety of problems you encounter. SaaS takes you into all kinds of industries, and with each one you learn how it operates and where its real problems live. Combining critical thinking and creativity to design solutions to those problems is what drives me. Most of my career has been in the frontend, where I found real joy in bringing experiences to life. I now lead a product stream at Auror, where we design and build the platform's insights capability, pulling together data from across the business to surface what matters and turn it into action.
I care deeply about building an environment where people are empowered in their work. Where the team operates with high levels of trust and autonomy, and feel safe to take on new challenges while staying accountable to each other.
Outside of work, I love anything outdoors, whether that’s getting out into the backcountry for a few days of hiking, snowboarding in winter or time out on the water during summer. I have a Goldador pup who keeps me on my toes and have many unfinished crafty projects.
**About You**
* Execution \& Ownership: You consistently ship well-defined work to production, taking ownership from implementation through to release and follow-up. You communicate progress, blockers, and trade-offs clearly.
* Full Stack Technical Capability: You can build end-to-end in React/TypeScript and C#/.NET (or ramp quickly in a similar stack), are comfortable working with APIs, and write maintainable, well-tested code.
* Problem Solving: You can break down ambiguous problems, investigate issues across the stack, identify root causes, and make pragmatic trade-offs to deliver effective solutions.
* Collaboration \& Communication: You bring a high level of collaboration and communication to your team. You support an environment where all voices are heard and valued, recognising how we each bring a unique perspective and value to work. You actively participate in discussions, ask thoughtful questions, and help move work forward. You enjoy working closely with engineers, product, and design, and are motivated to build strong relationships and connections, especially in a distributed team.
* High Agency \& Proactivity: You take ownership beyond your immediate tasks, proactively identifying gaps, raising ideas, and following through on improvements. You have a bias toward action, seek feedback, and continuously look for ways to improve both your own capability and the team’s ways of working.
* Learning \& Growth: You’re building depth across frontend, backend, and system design, and show curiosity, coachability, and a genuine desire to keep improving.
* Continuous Improvement: You contribute to incremental improvements in code quality, testing, and team practices, and follow through on actions from retrospectives.
* You are Auckland based. You are Auckland based or are looking to relocate to Auckland, and are able to collaborate effectively with the team in person when needed while also supporting flexible, hybrid ways of working.
* We are looking for people who demonstrate a strong alignment to our Guiding Principles (you can find these on our Careers page).
Auror is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible application process to all candidates and we are actively working to improve diversity within the tech industry. We celebrate diversity and inclusiveness at Auror, regardless of (but not limited to) race, gender, sexual orientation, family status, religion, ethnicity, national origin, physical disability, veteran status, or age.
If you need adjustments to any part of our recruitment process because of accessibility reasons, please do not hesitate to let us know during the application process. We will work with you to identify adjustments that will allow you to perform at your best.
**What are the benefits like?**
* Competitive salary range: Depending on level of experience a starting salary of $100,000 - 120,000 (IC2\)
* Annual bonus: Eligibility for a bonus at the end of the financial year if we’ve hit our revenue goals together.
* Employee share scheme: You’ll own part of a company making a real difference!
* Flexibility: We are hard-working and outcome focused, but recognise there is more to life than work. We promote a healthy work/life blend.
* Shorter work weeks (at full pay): Everyone gets Friday afternoons off, so you can start your weekend early, and do more of whatever it is that makes you happy.
* Focus on mental and physical health: We understand how vital our health is and have policies to support your wellness, including Wellness Days, and up to $750 NZD for expert sessions every year.
* Health insurance: We prioritise looking after your health by covering 100% of your individual health insurance plan through nib health insurance.
* Family-friendly: We offer comprehensive paid parental leave - 12 weeks for birth parents and 6 weeks for non-birth parents following birth, adoption, or surrogacy, available to all Aurors from day one.
* Personal growth: We support our team to participate in courses, co
