Software Engineer Intern – OPT/CPT Eligible
Role Description
**We’re building an online 1:1 tutoring platform in the U.S. that helps students connect with great tutors and get personalized learning support. We’re also integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) to power smarter workflows—like tutor matching, lesson planning assistance, and learning insights.**
We’re looking for a Software Engineer Intern (Unpaid) who wants to build real product features, ship to users, and grow fast in a startup-style environment.
OPT/CPT eligible (students must have their own CPT/OPT work authorization through their school/program).
What you’ll work on
Build core product flows: student/tutor profiles, scheduling, session management, messaging, payments, reviews
Develop backend services \& APIs and maintain clean, scalable data models
Create polished, responsive UI components with a strong focus on user experience
Integrate third-party services (e.g., Stripe, Zoom/Google Meet, calendar integrations)
Implement LLM-powered features (e.g., smart onboarding, matching signals, tutor support tools, learning summaries)
Improve performance, reliability, and security for a production web app
What you’ll learn / growth opportunities
End-to-end product ownership: take a feature from idea → design → implementation → launch → iteration
Real startup engineering practices: code reviews, tickets, agile iteration, writing maintainable code
Modern full-stack development: API design, auth, database schema, caching, testing, deployment basics
Practical LLM integration: prompt design \+ evaluation, guardrails, structured outputs, logging/monitoring
User-driven engineering: making tradeoffs based on real feedback and product metrics
Requirements
Web development experience via coursework/projects (internship experience is a plus, not required)
Comfortable with at least one area:
Frontend: React / Next.js
Backend: Node.js / Python / Java
Database: PostgreSQL / MySQL (or similar)
Familiar with Git; communicates clearly and takes ownership
Nice to have
TypeScript, REST APIs, authentication/authorization, Docker, AWS/GCP basics
Experience with payments, scheduling systems, real-time messaging, or analytics
Interest in EdTech and AI-enabled products
