Junior structural biologist intern – Part time for a student

We collaborate internationally to deliver the services and solutions that help everyone to be more productive and enable innovation. **What will you do / learn:** * Apply de novo design pipelines to generate new proteins or peptide molecules * Collaborate with a team of software engineers, machine learning experts, bioinformaticians and cheminformaticians * Join regular meetings with our scientific colleagues abroad to communicate progress and decide on next steps * Provide your feedback to help improve and develop new software solutions with real-world impact that help scientists understand disease, invent treatment, and speed up manufacturing **What should you know / have:** * Current student of bachelor, masters or doctorate program * Interest in applying de novo design methods to design new proteins and peptides * Strong problem-solving skills * Proactive approach, independence * Familiarity with the biology or chemistry of proteins and peptides and their sequence and structure * Hands-on experience with structure prediction (AlphaFold, Boltz) and structure visualization software (PyMOL / MOE / Mol*) **We will be happy if you know any of these (optional):** * Command line and UNIX systems * Bioinformatics tools (BLAST, foldseek) * Molecular dynamics (Gromacs) * Programming in Python * Data visualization, machine learning, deep learning * Agentic coding systems (Claude Code, Codex, Pi) **Besides a great atmosphere and flexible working environment, we also offer:** * Hourly wage * Multinational environment in the leading pharma corporation * Meal vouchers and Multisport card * Development program (every month trainings, workshops, networking events, etc.) * Flexible working hours * Friendly working environment * Possibility of challenging career **Who we are …** We are known as Merck \& Co., Inc., Rahway, New Jersey, USA in the United States and Canada and MSD everywhere else.
