Role Description
**SLB Schlumberger-Doll Research Center (SDR) – Cambridge, MA**
The Geoscience Department at the SDR Center in Cambridge, MA drives innovation in subsurface technologies and advances the scientific understanding needed for New Energy applications. The Subsurface Dynamics team is seeking a highly motivated graduate‑level intern to support the development of new experimental and modeling workflows focused on subsurface chemical reactions.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience, work alongside an international team of scientists, and contribute meaningfully to impactful research in a rapidly evolving field.
**About The Role**
The selected intern will work closely with SLB research staff to design, execute, and analyze laboratory‑scale experiments as well as image‑based modeling workflows. Training and mentorship will be provided to ensure a productive and enriching experience.
The internship is **three months in duration** with the potential for a **one‑month extension****.** Start dates are **flexible during the summer**.
**Preferred Background**
We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate with academic training in one or more of the following disciplines:
* Engineering
* Earth Sciences
* Material Sciences
* Physical Sciences
Experience with high‑resolution image‑based analytical techniques and image‑processing tools (e.g., ImageJ, QGIS) as well as programming environments such as MATLAB or Python is highly desirable.
**Qualifications**
Graduate student (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Engineering, Earth Sciences, Material Sciences, or Physical SciencesExperience with **laboratory experimental methods**, particularly rock analysis and advanced microscopy techniques such as:* Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
* Confocal microscopy
* X‑ray micro‑CT
Proficiency with **image analysis software** (e.g., ImageJ, 3D Slicer) and programming languages (**MATLAB, Python**)Familiarity with **chemical processes in rocks**, mineralogy, and related geochemical concepts is a plusStrong problem‑solving capabilities, excellent organizational skills, and effective communication (written and verbal).
