**Salary** Grade B: £24,309\.00 **Contractual hours** 37 **Basis** Full time **Region** Temporary - Full time **Job Type** Administrative **Job reference** R09188 **This opportunity is available only to current UWE Bristol students planning to take a work placement in the 2026-2027 academic year.** This is a fantastic opportunity for three current UWE Bristol students to get real-world, hands-on experience of working in a large and complex IT Service department. We have a large and diverse IT team of over 170 professionals involved in the development and maintenance of around 700 different applications and systems supporting both our student and staff communities. Our internship programme offers the chance to work directly in varied and multiple areas of our department. You’ll be given responsibility and real work from the outset. We will also help you to develop workplace-ready soft skills and give you the opportunity to use industry standard professional development tools so you are in the best position possible once you graduate. At the end of your time with us, you’ll have a great understanding of the possibilities for careers in IT and you’ll have the satisfaction of having worked on real challenges that improve the IT experience for everyone at the University. In academic year 2026-27, **we have 3 positions available** in the 3 pathways areas outlined below. On your application, please indicate a first and second preference from the following list of available pathways:**IT Operations – Service Desk** We’re offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic student to join our IT Service Desk team. You’ll work as part of a friendly, supportive team, helping students and staff access and use our IT systems. At the start of the internship, you’ll learn about the wide range of technologies we support and play a key role at the Welcome Hubs in October, helping new students get set up and confident with UWE systems. As your experience grows, you’ll contribute to identifying and delivering service improvements that make it easier for students to get up and running quickly—often enabling them to resolve issues themselves. You’ll work with multiple IT teams to help prioritise and coordinate these improvements, with opportunities to develop work that could feed into a finalyear project. **What you’ll gain** * Hands-on experience in a professional IT support environment * Exposure to a wide range of enterprise systems and technologies * Experience working with and supporting students and staff * Opportunities to develop project management and problem solving skills * Real, meaningful work aligned to UWE’s values and strategic priorities **IT Services - Operations Centre** The role involves providing technical expertise to support, maintain, and optimise the University’s platforms across both on premises infrastructure and cloud environments, including Microsoft Azure. As part of the ITS Operations Centre, the role delivers 2nd line support across multiple technologies, including Microsoft, Linux, and VMware. Key responsibilities include monitoring application health using tools such as SquaredUp for SCOM and Grafana, providing VMware support, managing incidents, and resolving Office 365, Exchange, and MS Teams requests through enterprise ticketing systems such as SaaSITeu. The role also supports VPN services, including Ivanti, and provides 1st and 2nd line Linux support on behalf of 3rd line teams. There will also be opportunities to work on software packaging challenges using MECM. The overarching aim is to ensure the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of the University’s platforms while supporting innovation and strategic objectives. **IT Services - Test Team** With an interest in testing, you will spend the year with IT Services Testing Team gaining experience in how testing fits into the Software Development Lifecycle. Learn about Development and Testing processes and best practice. You are likely to be involved in manual and automation testing, using Smartbear Test complete, ReadyAPI as well as using qTest Manager, Test Management Tool. There will be an opportunity to obtain the ISTQB Foundation in Software Testing certification. There are opportunities to develop automated tests using Smartbear Test Complete and Smartbear ReadyAPI. You will have an opportunity to be assigned to a Delivery team following Agile methodologies and work in a scrum team. **Where you will be working** UWE Bristol is a campus-based University, with vibrant campus communities that are central to student life.
