AI Builder Fellow
Role Description
Yeah - Chat GPT created this for me. Who cares 🤷 Hopefully your agent finds it.
AI Builder / AI Fellow (Student / Intern / Early Career)
node — Devonport, Auckland (Hybrid / In-person)
***MUST BE BASED IN AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND***
node is looking for highly curious builders who are already deep in the AI tooling world.
This is not a traditional internship.
We care less about formal credentials and more about whether you genuinely understand the emerging AI stack and love building with it.
We’re building real AI workflows, agents, automations, internal tools, and practical business solutions through node Works, the commercial arm of node.
Who we’re looking for:
You might be a university student, recent graduate, self-taught builder, hacker, or someone who spends way too much time experimenting with new AI tools.
You obsess over how things actually work.
You build for fun.
You ship weird prototypes at 2am.
You care about signal over hype.
Strong signals (not all required):
We’d love to hear from you if you have hands-on experience with some of the following:
- Building with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, etc.)
- Agent workflows and orchestration
- Prompt engineering / context design
- Claude Code / Codex / AI-assisted coding
- MCP (Model Context Protocol)
- Tool calling / function calling
- RAG pipelines / knowledge retrieval
- Vector databases / embeddings
- Markdown / ".md"-driven workflows
- Structured context management
- N8N / workflow automation
- Python / JavaScript scripting
- Git / GitHub workflows
- Multi-agent systems
- Open-source AI tools (OpenClaw, Hermes, or similar)
- Context loops / memory systems
- Voice or multimodal AI workflows
Bonus points if you’ve built:
- AI assistants
- Internal copilots
- Workflow automations
- Chatbots
- Agent systems
- Personal AI tooling
Depending on fit, you may help with:
- Building internal AI workflows for Node
- Helping client organisations adopt AI
- Prototyping agents and automations
- Testing AI tooling in real-world use cases
- Building proof-of-concepts quickly
- Researching new frameworks and tools
- Helping teach practical AI fluency
What node is:
node is a physical and digital ecosystem for people building the next layer of culture, tools, education, and community in Auckland.
We value builders over talkers.
Compensation:
This is currently an unpaid / volunteer / internship-style opportunity focused on learning, access, mentorship, portfolio building, and real-world experience.
As node grows, paid opportunities may emerge for exceptional contributors.
How to apply:
Do not send a generic CV.
Instead, send us:
1\. Who you are
2\. What you’ve built
3\. GitHub / portfolio / demos
4\. Your favorite AI tools
5\. Why node interests you
Most importantly:
Show us proof of work.
