Role Description

**Founding Software Engineer / Technical Partner — AION by KAI Systems** KAI Systems is looking for a founding software engineer / technical partner to help build the first functional prototype of AION. AION is a decision-state layer for infrastructure and project-finance transactions. Infrastructure transactions are still managed across Excel models, PDFs, data rooms, advisor notes, emails, IC materials, and fragmented stakeholder inputs. AION sits beside the financial model and helps teams track what has changed, what has been accepted, what evidence is missing, what is stale, and what needs to be resolved before key decision points. We are currently pre-funding and building the first controlled prototype. **The first prototype is deliberately narrow:** * One transaction * One assumption change * One model-linked consequence chain * One accepted working case * One structured decision log The goal is not to build the full AION platform from day one. The goal is to build the smallest credible prototype that can be tested with infrastructure finance practitioners on realistic transaction materials. **What you would help with:** * Build the first functional prototype from existing demo logic and product specifications * Design the core data model around artifacts, assumptions, model outputs, evidence, blockers, decisions, and accepted working case * Build clean frontend workflows for a transaction lead / analyst user * Develop backend/state logic for human-confirmed decision updates * Support Excel/PDF ingestion logic, including graceful handling of uncertainty * Help define what is real, mocked, deferred, risky, and technically fragile in the first build * Think through permissions, provenance, auditability, and secure handling of sensitive transaction materials **Relevant experience:** * Strong full-stack engineering ability * Comfortable working in an early-stage, ambiguous environment * Product-minded and able to challenge scope, not just execute tickets * Experience with Python, Supabase/Postgres, React/Next.js, or similar modern stack * Experience with Excel/PDF ingestion, document workflows, permissions, audit trails, or financial/institutional software is a plus * Interest in infrastructure finance, enterprise workflow software, or decision systems is highly relevant **Commitment and structure:** This is initially a part-time, remote/global role of around 5–10 hours per week. We would begin with a short technical/prototype sprint to assess fit, define architecture, clarify real vs mocked scope, and estimate the first build path. KAI Systems is pre-funding, so this is not a salaried role at this stage. Compensation would be equity-based at incorporation/funding milestone, aligned with actual contribution, commitment, and role clarity through a written agreement. **Who this is for:** This is best suited for someone who wants to help shape an early technical foundation, not simply take on a freelance task. We are looking for someone who can think like a founding engineer: challenge assumptions, protect technical quality, keep the build narrow, and help turn a serious workflow problem into a working prototype. If this sounds relevant, or if you know someone who could be a strong fit, please reach out or send me a message. Theis Lindegaard Founder, KAI Systems kai-systems.com
