Graduate / Junior Software Engineer, Banking Infrastructure

Melbourne, Australia
2026-07-10

Role Description

**Graduate / Junior Software Engineer, Banking Infrastructure** Melbourne or Brisbane. Hybrid. Full-time. Competitive salary. **About Kobble** Kobble is an Australian fintech company that builds banking infrastructure. We are a Mastercard Principal Issuer, we hold an AFSL, and we are registered with AUSTRAC. Companies use our platform to launch financial products such as cards, wallets, accounts and payments without building core banking systems from scratch. Our customers include fintechs, neobanks, and larger enterprises across a range of industries. The infrastructure we build handles real money for real businesses, so correctness, security and compliance sit at the centre of everything we do. We keep our teams small and give people meaningful ownership early. **The role** We are hiring a graduate or junior software engineer to work on our banking infrastructure. This is a good role for someone early in their career who wants to understand how money actually moves and who wants to work on systems that other companies depend on. You will work alongside experienced engineers who have built licensed banking infrastructure before. You will get real work, real code review, and real responsibility. We will support you while you learn, and we will expect you to grow into the work over time. **What you will do** You will contribute to the systems that power accounts, ledgers and payments. Over your first year you can expect to work across areas such as: * Building and maintaining API services that customers integrate with * Working on our real-time ledger and the records that track every transaction * Supporting Australian payment rails including NPP, PayID, PayTo and BECS * Contributing to card issuing, digital wallets and stored value features * Helping with compliance tooling such as transaction monitoring and reporting * Writing tests, documentation and clean, reviewable code **Our tech stack** We will teach you the parts you have not used. The tech stack is depending on the product so people from all backgrounds are able to apply. We also use Rust on some products where performance and safety matter most. The exact tools vary by product, so being comfortable picking up new ones is part of the job. **What we are looking for** We want someone who is careful, curious and willing to learn. A typical candidate might have: * A degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience * Some coding ability in TypeScript, and an interest in learning the rest of our stack * An interest in fintech, payments and financial systems * Attention to detail, which matters a great deal when the numbers have to be exactly right * Clear communication and a willingness to ask questions * The ability to work in a hybrid setup from either our Melbourne or Brisbane locations You do not need previous banking experience. You do need to care about doing the work well. **What we offer** * A competitive salary * Hybrid working across our Melbourne and Brisbane hubs * Mentorship from engineers who have built this kind of infrastructure from the ground up * Genuine responsibility on systems used by paying customers * Room to grow as the company grows **How to apply** We want to see how you think, not just read a CV. There are three steps. First, follow Kobble on LinkedIn so you can keep up with our updates and future roles. Second, go to ai.kobble.net and use Kobble AI to design and build a financial product of your own. This could be a card program, a wallet, a neobank concept, or anything else you would want to bring to market. Spend some time with it and shape something you find interesting. Third, send us your CV along with a screenshot or link to what you built, and a short note explaining the decisions you made and why. We read every submission. Kobble is an equal opportunity employer. We hire for ability and potential, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
