Role Description

Tenant Inc is building the industry's first truly open and modern self-storage ecosystem—powered by Hummingbird (our Property Management Software), an API-first architecture, and a suite of integrated tools for automation, access control, payments, websites, and operations.
We are looking for a passionate
**Software Engineer – Intern**
to join our
**Nectar**
(
**Integration Platform) Team**
. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates who are eager to build and integrate modern APIs, work with cloud technologies, and gain hands-on experience designing scalable integration solutions.
As part of the Nectar Team, you will work on developing REST APIs, designing OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, building backend services, integrating third-party systems, and deploying applications on AWS. You will collaborate closely with experienced engineers to build reliable, secure, and scalable integrations that power the Tenant Inc platform.
**What You'll Do**
**API Development \& Integration**
* Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs using Python and JavaScript.
* Create and maintain OpenAPI (Swagger) specifications and YAML definitions for new and existing APIs.
* Assist in designing clean, scalable, and reusable API endpoints following REST best practices.
* Build integrations between Tenant Inc products and third-party platforms.
* Participate in API testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
* Work with authentication mechanisms such as API Keys, OAuth, and JWT where applicable.
**Cloud \& Infrastructure**
* Deploy and maintain backend services on AWS.
* Assist with managing AWS resources including EC2 instances, RDS databases, and related cloud services.
* Monitor application health and troubleshoot deployment issues.
* Participate in maintaining development, staging, and production environments.
**Software Development**
* Work through the complete software development lifecycle—from requirement analysis to deployment.
* Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
* Participate in code reviews and adopt engineering best practices.
* Debug application issues and implement reliable solutions.
* Write unit and integration tests to ensure software quality.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality features.
**What You Bring**
* Pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
* Good programming knowledge in
**Python**
and
**JavaScript**
.
* Understanding of
**REST APIs**
and API design principles.
* Familiarity with
**OpenAPI (Swagger)**
specifications and YAML.
* Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
* Understanding of AWS fundamentals, including:
* API Gateway
* EC 2 Machines
* RDS - Mysql, Postgress
* Dynamo DB
* AWS Regions and access
* S3 buckets
* Cloudfront
* Application deployment
* Instance management
* Familiarity with Git and version control workflows and cherry picks
* Understanding of HTTP methods, request/response lifecycle, and JSON.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication and willingness to learn.
**Preferred Qualifications**
* Experience building personal, academic, or internship projects involving REST APIs.
* Familiarity with React, FastAPI, Express.js, or similar backend frameworks.
* Exposure to API testing tools such as Postman or Insomnia.
* Basic understanding of Linux environments.
* Knowledge of Docker and containerization is a plus.
* Familiarity with CI/CD concepts is a plus with Jenkins and Docker
**Bonus Points**
* Experience designing API contracts using Swagger/OpenAPI.
* Experience integrating with third-party APIs.
* Understanding of API versioning and documentation best practices.
* Contributions to open-source projects or technical portfolios.
* Knows how to work and create with AI Agents, AI Flows and MCPs
