Blue Oak Consulting

Frontend Developer Intern
Role Description
We are looking for a Frontend Developer Intern to build the internal tools and dashboards needed for a major project with a private infrastructure firm. This role focuses on turning complex financial data into clear, functional interfaces that help our principals test commercial assumptions.
**About Blue Oak Consulting**
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P\&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
**The Role**
This is a fully remote position that sits at the center of our technical and financial workflows. As an intern, you will work closely with our principals to build the frontend components of tools used to analyze infrastructure projects. You will not be building generic marketing sites: you will be creating specific, data heavy applications that allow us to visualize capital allocation and investment risks. The work is direct and focused on functional utility over aesthetic flair. You will see how software can be a tool for uncovering the truth in financial cases.
**What You Will Be Doing**
* Building and maintaining user interfaces for specialized financial modeling tools.
* Translating data from our backend models into clear, interactive charts and tables.
* Collaborating with analysts to ensure the frontend accurately reflects the underlying project economics for our infrastructure client.
* Writing clean, maintainable code in modern JavaScript frameworks to handle complex datasets.
* Identifying and fixing bugs in the user interface that could lead to misinterpretation of data.
* Testing how different visual layouts impact a user's ability to spot anomalies in capital allocation models.
* Helping document the frontend logic to ensure consistency across different project internal tools.
* Participating in code reviews to ensure all work meets our standards for clarity and precision.
**What You Bring**
* A basic understanding of modern frontend technologies like React, Vue, or similar JavaScript frameworks.
* Familiarity with HTML and CSS, particularly for creating responsive, data heavy layouts.
* A genuine interest in how businesses work and a willingness to learn about financial concepts.
* A disciplined approach to testing and debugging your own work.
* The ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while staying communicative.
* A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or currently pursuing one).
* Experience with version control tools like Git.
* An eye for detail and a preference for simple, functional designs.
* Curiosity about how data visualization can reveal hidden patterns in financial models.
**What We Offer**
* Fully remote work environment that respects your time and independence.
* Direct access to firm principals who are experts in financial advisory and portfolio economics.
* Competitive pay for the intern market, reflecting the high stakes of our client work.
* Practical experience building tools that have a direct impact on large scale infrastructure decisions.
* A culture that values evidence and logic over corporate hierarchy or buzzwords.
* Training on how to translate financial requirements into technical specifications.
* The opportunity to work on projects where the results are measurable and concrete.
Working at Blue Oak Consulting means looking for the objective truth in the numbers. We value team members who are skeptical of easy answers and who want to build software that stands up to scrutiny. While we are a small firm, the scope of our work with clients in the infrastructure space provides an environment where every line of code matters to the final analysis.
