Associate Software Developer - Paid Working Student
Role Description
We are looking for a curious, proactive, and ambitious student who wants to build hands-on software development experience while helping shape and scale an early-stage Stealth Company in Zurich.
**Are you our new Associate Software Developer?**
Do you want to work closely with experienced engineers and founders to build real products used by real customers? Are you excited by solving technical problems, shipping quickly, and learning how modern software products are built from the ground up?
Then this could be for you.
As an Associate Software Developer, you will play an active role in building and improving our product. You will work closely with the engineering and product teams across the full development lifecycle, from understanding requirements and designing solutions to implementing, testing, deploying, and improving features.
This is not a role where you will only work on isolated exercises or internal tasks. You will contribute to production software, take ownership of meaningful technical problems, and develop your engineering skills with support from experienced teammates.
**Who are we?**
We are working with a fast-moving Stealth Company based in Zurich, building a technology product with ambitious plans for growth.
We operate in a highly entrepreneurial environment where engineering, product, business, and customer needs come together every day. As an early member of the team, you will have the opportunity to contribute directly to the product, technical foundations, engineering culture, and growth of the company.
**What are we looking for in our new Associate Software Developer?**
We know that you are still studying and developing your skills. We are not looking for someone who already knows every framework or has years of professional engineering experience.
We are looking for someone who learns quickly, enjoys solving problems, writes thoughtful code, takes initiative, and is excited about building software in a fast-moving environment.
No two days will look exactly the same, but here is what you can expect:
· Build and improve features across our product
· Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
· Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering
· Translate product requirements into technical solutions
· Debug issues and improve the reliability and performance of existing systems
· Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
· Help design APIs, data models, and application architecture
· Work with databases, cloud infrastructure, and modern development tools
· Support testing, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement
· Experiment with new technologies where they can create real product value
· Take ownership of smaller technical projects as you grow into the role
· Contribute ideas and challenge assumptions around how we build the product
**What we are looking for**
· Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field
· Preferably at least approximately one year of studies remaining
· Strong programming fundamentals
· Experience with at least one modern programming language such as Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, C\+\+, Go, or similar
· Understanding of data structures, APIs, databases, and basic software engineering principles
· Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows
· Interest in building web applications, backend systems, APIs, or full-stack products
· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
· Ability to learn new technologies independently
· Clear communication and collaboration skills
· Interest in startups, technology, and building products from an early stage
· Experience with cloud platforms, SQL, React, Node.js, Docker, CI/CD, AI tooling, or LLM applications is a plus, but not required
· Previous internship, personal project, open-source, hackathon, or startup experience is a plus
· Fluency in English; German or French is a plus
· Availability for regular on-site presence in Zurich
· Approximately 15-20 hours per week
Do not worry if you do not meet every single requirement. We care more about strong fundamentals, curiosity, ownership, and your ability to learn than about knowing a specific technology stack.
**What can we offer you?**
**1 \| Real engineering ownership**
Work on production software and contribute directly to features that matter to users and the business.
**2 \| Build from an early stage**
See how a technology product is built from the ground up and gain exposure to architecture, product decisions, infrastructure, and engineering trade-offs.
**3 \| Work closely with the founding and engineering team**
Learn directly from experienced teammates and contribute to important technical and product decisions.
**4 \| Modern technology environment**
Work with modern tools, frameworks, cloud infrastructure, and emerging technologies while learning how to choose the right solution for the problem.
**5 \| Entrepreneurial work environment**
Join a fast-moving company where engineers are encouraged to take ownership, move quickly, experiment, and contribute beyond their immediate tasks.
**6 \| Accelerated learning**
Develop practical software engineering skills that are difficult to learn in the classroom while continuing your studies.
If you enjoy building things, solving difficult problems, and want to develop quickly as a software engineer while contributing to an early-stage company, we would love to hear from you.
