**About the Apprenticeship Program**
Pearson India’s Apprenticeship Program provides graduates and early-career professionals with structured training, hands-on experience, and mentorship from industry experts. Through a blend of on-the-job learning and guided development, apprentices build the professional and technical skills needed to succeed in a global organization.
**About the Team**
The **Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team** is responsible for ensuring that our platforms are:
* **Highly available**
* **Scalable and performant**
* **Secure and observable**
The team works closely with development, security, and product teams to:
* Design resilient systems
* Automate operational tasks
* Reduce toil through engineering
* Improve reliability through monitoring, incident management, and post-incident learning
As an apprentice, you will be embedded within this team and guided by experienced SREs and DevOps engineers.
**About the Role**
As an **SRE Apprentice** , you will learn how modern production systems are built and operated at scale. This role is ideal for candidates who are curious about:
* Cloud infrastructure
* Automation and scripting
* System reliability and troubleshooting
* How large-scale systems stay online 24x7
You will start with guided tasks and gradually take ownership of small components and improvements as your skills grow.
**Key Responsibilities**
During the apprenticeship, you will:
* Assist in maintaining and monitoring cloud-based infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP)
* Learn and support CI/CD pipelines for application deployments
* Help configure and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems
* Participate in incident response activities under supervision
* Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for incidents and document learnings
* Write basic automation scripts to reduce manual operational work
* Maintain documentation such as runbooks, SOPs, and system diagrams
* Collaborate with developers to improve application reliability and performance
**Desirable Skills and Attributes**
**Technical (Nice to Have – Not Mandatory)**
* Basic understanding of:
* Linux / Unix systems
* Networking fundamentals (HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP)
* Cloud computing concepts
* Familiarity with any of the following is a plus:
* Python, Bash, or any scripting language
* Git and version control
* Docker, Kubernetes (basic awareness)
* Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc.)
**Behavioral \& Learning Attributes**
* Strong curiosity and willingness to learn
* Problem-solving mindset
* Ability to follow structured processes and documentation
* Good communication skills
* Comfortable working in a team and asking questions
* Interest in systems, infrastructure, and reliability engineering
**Eligibility Criteria**
* Bachelor’s degree in **Computer Science, IT, Electronics, Data Science, or related fields**
* Recent engineering students or graduates with **less than 1 year of experience**
* Must meet requirements under the **Apprenticeship Act, 1961**
* Must be registered on the **NATS portal**
* Legally eligible to work in India

**Work Schedule**
* Full-time apprenticeship, **Monday to Friday (40 hours/week)**

**Application Closing Date:**
This position is offered under the Apprentices Act, 1961, as part of an official Apprenticeship Program. As an apprentice, you will undergo structured on-the-job training, combined with theoretical learning where applicable, to develop specific skills and prepare for skilled employment.
**Career Progression**
Upon successful completion of the 12-month apprenticeship, and based on performance, business needs, and role availability, apprentices **may be considered for conversion into full-time SRE / DevOps Engineer roles** .
