From touch, display, and biometrics to AI-driven wireless connectivity, video, vision, audio, speech, and security processing, Synaptics is the force behind the next generation of technology enhancing how we live, work, and play. **Overview** The Technology and Innovation Internship is an opportunity to learn and develop your edge AI and embedded skills by working with the Technology and Innovation team. Our internship is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled at an accredited college/university and who will continue their studies in the fall. The typical base pay range for this position is USD $39\.25 - $48\.75 per hour. Individual pay is determined by many factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Note that compensation listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only. **Responsibilities \& Competencies** Job Duties* Build and enhance a voice-assistant demo on Synaptics SL2610 hardware * Convert, compile, and deploy ML models using the Synaptics TorqTM toolchain * Develop Python-based applications, utilities, and automation scripts to support the demo * Fine-tune and evaluate a Gemma 3 model for embedded voice-assistant scenarios * Integrate model inference, application logic, and system components into a working prototype * Measure and improve model performance on-device, including latency, memory, and accuracy * Troubleshoot model deployment, software integration, and system-level issues * Maintain clear documentation for experiments, code, and deployment procedures. * Work with the Astra Machina kits (SL1680/SL2610\) to run AI models Competencies * Strong problem-solving and debugging skills across software, models, and embedded systems * Ability to learn new AI toolchains, deployment workflows, and hardware platforms quickly * Solid programming capability in Python with attention to code quality and maintainability * Good collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to document work and share results clearly **Qualifications** (Requirements)* Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field or equivalent * Experience with Python programming and building small applications or automation scripts * Familiarity with machine learning or deep learning concepts, including model training or fine-tuning * Exposure to Linux development environments, command-line tools, and software debugging * Able to work independently at times and dedicate a minimum of 20 hours/week * Must be legally authorized to work in the US without restriction * Must be willing to submit to a background investigation, including verification of your employment and criminal history * Must be 18 years of age or older *Belief in Diversity* *Synaptics is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to workforce diversity.
