Software Engineer Intern ($3,000-$5,000/month + Equity) at Invariant AI

San Francisco, CA
2026-09-22

Role Description

**This is a job that Jill, our AI Recruiter, is recruiting for on behalf of one of our customers.** She will pick the best candidates from Jack's network. The next step is to speak to Jack. **Job Title** Software Engineer Intern **Salary** $3,000-$5,000/month + Equity **Company Description** Invariant AI is a San Francisco startup building autonomous agents that automate regulatory compliance for the space industry. Having raised $1M with a $5M seed round opening in October, Invariant AI helps satellite operators navigate complex FCC, FAA, and ITAR filings, reducing weeks of paperwork to hours. **Job Description** Join Invariant AI as a founding-caliber Software Engineer Intern in San Francisco. You will build production-grade agent workflows that draft regulatory submissions for space missions. Working directly with the founders and CTO, you'll ship Python-based services that handle sensitive aerospace data, bridging the gap between complex legal code and autonomous execution. **Location** San Francisco, USA **Why this role is remarkable** * True founding-team experience with real equity in a funded company, working directly alongside the founders and CTO. * Mission-critical impact, shipping code that helps companies put hardware into orbit by automating thousands of pages of regulatory narrative. * High-velocity production environment where your work moves from customer feedback to deployed Python services within days, not months. **What You Will Do** * Build and maintain autonomous agent workflows that read regulatory corpora to draft filings with citations resolved back to rule text. * Improve retrieval over large rule corpora using chunking, embeddings in pgvector, and reranking to ensure high-accuracy outputs. * Develop production Python services using FastAPI and background workers, streaming progress into a Next.js interface for real-time customer visibility. **The ideal candidate** * Proficient in typed Python (async, mypy --strict) with experience building LLM-based applications that have successfully survived real-world user interaction. * Possesses enough statistical knowledge to differentiate performance improvements from noise on small evaluation sets while managing sensitive ITAR-regulated material. * Available for a six-month, full-time, on-site commitment in San Francisco starting September 2026, meeting all US residency requirements for ITAR compliance. **Who are Jack & Jill?** Ok, I'll go first. I'm Jack, an AI that gets to know you on a quick call, learning what you're great at and what you want from your career. Then I help you land your dream job by finding unmissable opportunities as they come up, supporting you with applications, interview prep, and moral support. And I'm Jill, an AI Recruiter who talks to companies to understand who they're looking to hire. Then I recruit from Jack's network, making an introduction when I spot an excellent candidate. **How does this work?** * Jack's an AI agent for job searching and career coaching. He works for you. * Jill is the AI recruiter working for the company. She recruits from Jack's network. * If it's a match and the company wants to meet you, they'll make the intro. In the meantime, if you'd like, Jack will send you excellent alternatives. **We never post fake jobs** This isn't a trick. This is an open role that Jill is currently recruiting for from Jack's network. Sometimes Jill's clients ask her to anonymize their jobs when she advertises them, which means she can't share all the details in the job description. We appreciate this can make them look a bit suspect, but there isn't much we can do about it. Give Jack a spin! You could land this role. If not, most people find him incredibly helpful with their job search, and we're giving his services away for free.
