**Spring/Summer/Fall 2026 Project Opportunities in Computational for Materials Science with AI/ML**
**Location:** North Andover, MA (20 miles north of Boston)
**Format:** Hybrid – 1–2 days/week on campus, remainder remote
The **Computational Materials Design Group** led by **Professor Avik Mahata** at the **School of Engineering and Computational Sciences, Merrimack College**, is seeking **motivated undergraduate students** and **research scientists** for **summer internships** or **semester-long research projects (for credit hours or paid positions)**.
Our research focuses on applying **Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Data Mining, and Large Language Models (LLMs)** to design and discover **advanced materials** for future technologies.
We welcome students from the following backgrounds:
* **Computer Science**
* **Materials Science**
* **Mechanical Engineering**
* **Chemistry**
* **Physics**
**Areas of work include:**
* AI/ML for materials property prediction
* Data mining from scientific literature
* LLMs for knowledge extraction
* Materials informatics and computational modeling
