Software Engineer Intern
Role Description
Apata is a fintech company building a new generation of flexible fraud-prevention solutions for card issuers. Our platform authenticates more than 30 million e-commerce transactions a month for cardholders worldwide, and is trusted by around 100 financial institutions globally. We're growing fast, and the frontend is central to how issuers and merchants experience what we do - so this is a great time to join a small, senior team where your work ships and matters. The Role

You will be paired with a dedicated senior mentor who will guide you through the software development lifecycle, from system design and architecture to deployment and monitoring.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Design & Build: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, and Engineering) to design, implement, and ship new features for our core platform.
* Code Quality: Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code. Participate in constructive code reviews to maintain our high engineering standards.
* Problem Solving: Investigate and resolve bugs, optimize application performance, and contribute to reducing technical debt.
* Agile Collaboration: Actively participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives to experience how modern software teams operate.
* End-of-Internship Presentation: Demo the project you built over the summer to the broader engineering team
**What We're Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)**
* Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering.
* Technical Foundations: Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
* Coding Proficiency: Experience writing clean code in at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C++, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript).
* Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* Curiosity: A genuine passion for learning new technologies and a proactive approach to asking questions.
**Bonus Points (Preferred Qualifications)**
* Experience with version control systems (specifically Git and GitHub/GitLab).
* A portfolio of personal projects, open-source contributions, or previous hackathon experience.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
* Basic understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) or NoSQL environments.
