Role Description
**Location:** 1234 Roxbury Crossing, MA **Category:** Student **Job Type:** Per diem **Posted On:** Wed Sep 23 2026 **Job Description:**
**Job title**: SQL & Reporting Co-Op, Internship
**Unit:** Non-unit
**Department:** Office of CIO, Information Technology Services
**Reports to:** CIO
**Schedule:** Four days per week, one remote day
**Anticipated start date:** Fall 2026
**End date**: January 31, 2027
**About the work**
RCC runs on Jenzabar J1 (SIS/ERP, including Financial Aid), Canvas, and Slate, and is building a governed Databrickson-Azure lakehouse that will carry the college's reporting and KPI layer going forward. Almost every question the college needs answered enrollment, retention, satisfactory academic progress, financial aid, federal compliance?
comes down to someone writing a correct query against that data. This co-op is for a graduate student who is genuinely good at SQL and wants to see what production reporting looks
like: real stakeholders, real deadlines, numbers that have to be right the first time.
You will work alongside the IT team with direct access to the CIO and to the offices that consume the reports.
**What you'll do**
Write, tune, and maintain SQL queries and views against Jenzabar J1 and the RCC lakehouse
Build operational and ad hoc reports for Registrar, Financial Aid, Admissions, Finance, Academic Affairs, and Institutional Effectiveness
Support federal and state compliance reporting IPEDS, FVT/GE, and state submissions including the data pulls, reconciliation, and validation behind them
Develop and maintain dashboards and KPI reports (Databricks AI/BI, Power BI, or similar)
Translate requests from non-technical staff into precise data requirements, and ask the follow-up question when a request is ambiguous
Reconcile discrepancies between source systems and reported figures, and document the resolution
Help migrate existing reports onto the new Databricks lakehouse, retiring one-off spreadsheets and shadow queries along the way
Document report logic, definitions, and refresh schedules so reports survive turnover
Handle student and financial data in line with FERPA and RCC data governance policy
**Job Requirements:**
**What we're looking for**
Currently enrolled in or recently completed a master's program in Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science,
Information Systems, Statistics, or a related field
Strong SQL complex joins, aggregation, window functions, CTEs; you can write, read, and debug non-trivial
analytical queries
Ability to read an unfamiliar schema and figure out where the truth lives
Attention to detail reconciliation, row counts, and edge cases matter more here than speed
Comfort talking directly with business users to scope a reporting request
Clear written communication and a habit of documenting
Willingness to complete FERPA training before working with production data
**Preferred**
Prior internship, assistantship, or coursework building reports someone else actually used
Higher education data exposure Jenzabar, Banner, Colleague, Workday Student, or similar SIS/ERP
Familiarity with IPEDS or other federal compliance reporting
Databricks, Spark SQL, Delta Lake, or Unity Catalog exposure (coursework counts)
Power BI, Tableau, or Databricks AI/BI dashboard development
Python for data work; Git-based version control
Fluency using AI assistants such as Claude to draft, review, and debug SQL we expect you to use these tools
**Additional Information:**
**What you'll get**
Production reporting experience against a live SIS the part of data work that coursework rarely covers
Hands-on time with a modern governed lakehouse: Databricks, Unity Catalog, Azure
Direct mentorship from the CIO and exposure to how an institution makes decisions from its data
Work you can point to and explain end to end in an interview
**Pay:** $20
