As a Software Engineering Intern, you will work on real product features and technical initiatives that support our mission. You will collaborate with the founding team to design, build, test, and deploy software that addresses practical challenges faced by students and university administrators. Depending on your experience and project assignments, your work may involve developing AI-powered assistants, integrating large language models, building user-facing applications, connecting APIs and data sources, and improving the reliability and performance of our platform. This role is designed for someone who enjoys solving difficult problems, learning quickly, and taking ownership of projects in a fast-paced startup environment. You will have the opportunity to contribute directly to product development and see your work translate into practical applications. Key Responsibilities * **Software Development:** Design, develop, test, and maintain features across the Gravitas platform. * **AI Integration:** Help integrate large language models and AI-powered workflows into practical applications for higher education. * **Full-Stack Engineering:** Contribute to frontend interfaces, backend services, APIs, and supporting infrastructure. * **Product Development:** Collaborate with founders and teammates to translate user needs into technical solutions. * **System Integration:** Help connect university information sources, administrative workflows, and third-party services where appropriate. * **Testing and Reliability:** Identify bugs, improve application performance, and help ensure reliable, secure software. * **Research and Innovation:** Evaluate emerging AI tools, frameworks, and engineering approaches to improve the platform. * **Ownership and Execution:** Take responsibility for assigned projects, communicate progress, and deliver working solutions. Technologies You May Work With Depending on project requirements and your experience, you may work with technologies such as: * **Programming Languages:** Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, and SQL * **Frontend Development:** React and modern web development frameworks * **Backend Development:** APIs, server-side applications, and database-driven systems * **Artificial Intelligence:** Large language models, AI APIs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and AI agent workflows * **Data and Infrastructure:** Relational databases, cloud services, and application hosting * **Developer Tools:** Git, GitHub, automated testing, and modern development environments The specific technology stack will depend on current product priorities and the intern's skills. Familiarity with every technology listed is not required. Qualifications The ideal candidate: * Is pursuing or has recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field, or can demonstrate equivalent practical experience. * Has experience programming in at least one language, such as Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript. * Demonstrates strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. * Is interested in artificial intelligence, software engineering, and building practical technology products. * Can learn unfamiliar tools and technologies quickly. * Communicates effectively and works well in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment. * Takes initiative, accepts feedback, and follows through on commitments. * Is comfortable working in an early-stage company where priorities can evolve quickly.
