Robotics Engineer Intern

Montréal, QC, Canada
2026-04-01

Role Description

**Robotics Engineer Intern** Summer 2026 \| Montréal, QC \| Paid Internship \| Pathway to Full-Time **About OSCP** One Silicon Chip Photonics (OSCP) is advancing the frontier of photonic sensing technology. We are building next-generation inertial measurement units (IMUs) - both MEMS and photonic - that push the limits of precision and reliability. Our sensors are poised to transform navigation, aerospace, defense, and autonomous systems. As we scale from R\&D; to production, we are looking for driven, hands-on interns to join our growing team in Montréal. **The Opportunity** OSCP's IMUs need to work seamlessly inside robotic systems - and that means ROS2\. As our Robotics Engineer Intern, you will build the integration layer between OSCP's inertial sensors and robotic platforms. You will develop ROS2 drivers, implement sensor fusion pipelines, and test everything on real hardware. If you dream in ROS2 nodes and think in transforms, this role is for you. **This internship is paid at a competitive market rate and has a clear pathway to full-time employment for exceptional candidates.** **What You'll Do** * Develop and maintain ROS2 packages for interfacing with OSCP's MEMS and photonic IMU products * Implement sensor fusion algorithms (EKF, complementary filters) that combine IMU data with other sensor inputs (GNSS, LiDAR, cameras) * Write drivers and communication interfaces for OSCP IMUs using serial protocols (SPI, I2C, UART) * Build simulation environments (Gazebo, RViz) for testing IMU integration before deploying on hardware * Test and validate IMU performance on robotic platforms under real-world conditions * Benchmark OSCP IMUs against competing sensors in standardized robotic navigation tasks * Document ROS2 packages, integration guides, and best practices for customer-facing deployment * Collaborate with firmware and hardware engineers to optimize IMU output for robotic applications **Who You Are** We're looking for someone who lives in the ROS2 ecosystem - the kind of person who has already shipped ROS2 packages or built autonomous systems for competition or research. * Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Software Engineering (or a related field) * Proficient in ROS2 - not just tutorials, but real project experience with nodes, topics, services, actions, and tf2 * Strong C/C\+\+ and Python programming skills• Understanding of sensor fusion concepts (Kalman filtering, state estimation) * Familiarity with embedded systems and serial communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART) * Comfortable working in Linux environments and with version control (Git) * Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working independently on open-ended challenges **Nice to Have** * Experience implementing EKF or UKF for IMU/INS fusion * Familiarity with SLAM, autonomous navigation, or localization algorithms * Experience with Gazebo, RViz, or other robotics simulation tools * Knowledge of Docker for containerized ROS2 deployments * Exposure to real-time systems or RTOS concepts * Competition or research experience in autonomous robotics (drones, rovers, AUVs) * Familiarity with IMU/INS data formats and inertial navigation principles **What We Offer** * Competitive compensation at market rate * Hands-on experience with cutting-edge MEMS and photonic IMU technology * A real engineering project with tangible, demonstrable outcomes * Pathway to full-time employment upon successful completion * A collaborative, fast-moving team in Montréal's growing deep-tech ecosystem Job Type: Full-time Pay: $25\.00-$28\.00 per hour Work Location: In person
