Tech Intern: Keep a small team moving fast
Role Description
**About the Role**
We are looking for someone who loves technology and loves helping other people do their best work with it. Around fifty of us look after tens of thousands of acres and a portfolio worth over £400m, and great technology is what makes that possible.
As our Tech Intern you'll do two things. You'll keep the team equipped and unblocked, running the ticket queue, giving genuinely good one-to-one support, and making sure nobody loses a day to something that should have taken ten minutes. And you'll build: the systems, integrations and automations that let a small team have a disproportionate impact. What’s more, you'll work with every part of the business, which means you'll understand it faster than anyone.
**About You**
**Environment**
* A love for the natural world and rural environment, and a commitment to its ecological restoration.
* Excited by what technology makes possible for a business restoring landscapes at scale, and keen to be part of building it.
**Impact**
* Technically capable and genuinely curious. You enjoy working things out, and you will build the solutions that save your colleagues hours every week.
* Some experience with scripting, automation, integrations or low-code tooling, or a clear appetite to develop it.
* Fluent and enthusiastic about AI tools and interested in where they genuinely increase leverage.
**Adventure**
* Happy working across a wide and unpredictable range of challenges and opportunities.
* Excited to get out to our estates and see first-hand the places and the people our technology supports.
* Ready to try out completely new technology: you love checking out the latest local LLMs, GitHub repos and are always experimenting to find the best possible technology.
**Together**
* Patient and genuinely helpful with colleagues at every level of technical confidence.
* A clear communicator who can explain anything technical to anyone, whatever their level of confidence.
* You love helping people, and you see every request through until your colleague is genuinely up and running.
* And let's be honest, you have to be really kind too. Sharing snacks on long journeys or a packed lunch in the driving rain is mandatory!
We believe in recruiting exceptional people and creating opportunities that allow you to do incredible things. You don't need to tick every box above, and you don't need to look or sound a certain way to belong here. We are committed to building a genuinely diverse team drawn from across the country, with a wide range of lived and learnt experiences. It doesn't matter what point in your career you are at, what school you went to, or whether you have a degree or not. We want exceptional people with a desire to make a difference.
**Key Responsibilities**
* **IT Support:**
Own the ticket queue and provide responsive one-to-one support across the team, resolving issues properly first time.
* **Equipment and Accounts:**
Keep the team equipped with hardware, accounts, access and onboarding, so everyone is able to do their best work.
* **Systems Building:**
Help
build out new apps and improve our internal systems, integrations and automations, increasing what a small team can deliver. Use our Cloudflare & GitHub platforms together with AI coding agents to build fast and with quality.
* **AI Enablement:**
Help colleagues adopt AI tools well and build the workflows that make them genuinely useful day to day.
* **Documentation:**
Write the guidance, and make it easily accessible, so people can solve some problems themselves.
* **Security and Good Practice:**
Support sensible security practice across the team, including how we handle data.
**About Us**
We're building the UK's first genuine Natural Capital portfolio: acquiring large landscapes, restoring them at scale, and proving that nature recovery can create real, investable value.
Across our 12 estates, that means using restoration to create premium natural capital products like carbon credits, biodiversity units, and nature credits while also exploring regenerative agriculture, renewable energy and ecotourism experiences (you can check them out at Oxygen Escapes).
In just five years, we've grown to managing over 50,000 acres and a valuation of hundreds of millions of pounds. By 2030, our ambition is to have 250,000 acres under restoration while to connect helping millions more acres for nature.
Our mission is simple: prove that restoring ecosystems can not only deliver transformative environmental and social impact, but also financial returns.
Our work hasn't gone unnoticed. In 2022, we were named Start-Up of the Year at the Business Leader South West Awards, followed by Team of the Year at the 2023 Edie Awards and our nature funding agreement with Triodos won ESG Deal of the Year at the 2024 Insider South West Dealmakers Awards. Our founder and CEO, Dr Rich Stockdale, is featured in the ENDS Power List as one of the top 100 UK environmental professionals driving significant impact.
