AI Software Engineer Intern – Next-Gen Ops Intelligence

Rotterdam, Netherlands
2026-10-19

Role Description

**Next-Gen Ops Intelligence Intern** **Strategic Student Program (SSP)** **Siemens Software – #TransformTheEveryday** **Based: Rotterdam, The Netherlands / Hybrid, Flex-time / 6 months between Fall 2026 and Spring 2027** Siemens Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation, and manufacture of products across many different industries. Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software. We offer a role with responsibility, independence, and the opportunity to contribute proactively while working in a collaborative environment with room for continuous learning and professional growth. **Start your career with the Strategic Student Program (SSP)** The Strategic Student Program (SSP) is our global internship program at Siemens Digital Industries Software. You will be mentored by experienced professionals, gain practical experience on real customer projects, and work with cutting-edge technologies that support the digital transformation of manufacturing industries. As an SSP intern, you will join an international student community, access structured learning through the Siemens Learning Hub, receive ongoing coaching, and contribute to meaningful projects within a global and diverse engineering team. **What you'll be doing as part of the Next-Gen Ops Intelligence team in Rotterdam?** A convincing answer is not always the right one. Help an AI operations assistant tell the difference. You will build on an existing AI-assisted operations prototype for a systems engineering simulation platform, exploring how it can weigh diagnostic evidence, choose useful follow-up checks, and recognize when a software developer or a support/DevOps engineer should take over. *(Note: The project focuses on diagnostic support in controlled scenarios, not autonomous changes to live production services.)* **You will contribute to activities such as:** * Understand the evidence: Explore how the assistant uses logs, service states, and incident history. Identify missing, outdated, duplicated, or conflicting clues, and connect observations to the right incident and time window. * Choose the next useful check: Prototype ways to weigh evidence and decide whether to reach a conclusion, investigate further, or ask for human input. Make additional checks useful, not just more numerous. * Make conclusions clear: Connect each finding to the evidence behind it. Explain remaining uncertainty and give engineers a useful handover instead of a confident guess. * Test what really improves: Build replayable incident scenarios and compare your approach with the existing assistant. Aim for fewer unsupported diagnoses without simply refusing difficult cases; measure usefulness, investigation cost, and response time. * Integrate and demonstrate: Bring the method into the prototype and show it working end to end. Deliver reusable code, a repeatable evaluation, and an honest account of its strengths and limits. What we're looking for We are looking for final-year engineering or master's students in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied AI, or related technical disciplines. If you enjoy software development, Artificial Intelligence, automation, and solving technical challenges while working in an international engineering environment, we'd love to hear from you. **Preferred Qualifications** * Programming experience in Python, Go, or TypeScript, and confidence with APIs, testing, and debugging. * Curiosity about AI agents, cloud-native systems, and software reliability. * Kubernetes or observability experience is helpful, not essential. * A self-driven, structured approach to experimentation and the ability to explain technical findings clearly. SSP Rotterdam 2026–2027: Conditions & Eligibility The Siemens Strategic Student Program (SSP) will run from fall 2026 to spring 2027 This is a flex-time internship based in Rotterdam. Internships are paid, with a fixed internship allowance of €750 per month. Our internship program may be structured as either employment or contingent worker arrangements, depending on local legal requirements. For contingent worker arrangements, individuals will be engaged and employed by a third-party provider, not Siemens, and therefore will not be eligible for Siemens employee benefits. **Where appropriate, students may also complete their bachelor's or master's thesis in collaboration with Siemens Digital Industries Software.** Eligibility Applicants must be enrolled at a university for the full duration of the internship. Curricular and extracurricular internships are accepted, subject to the university's internship agreement. Students must have sufficient internship hours available within their academic programme. International students must hold the appropriate visa and/or work authorisation, as Siemens cannot sponsor or facilitate immigration processes for internships. **Why work at Siemens Software?** At Siemens, you are empowered to be your best self. We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity as a driver of innovation. We offer a flexible, flex-time and hybrid working model that respects your work-life harmony while providing deep immersion into the world of industrial tech. **Transform the everyday and shape the future of your career with us** Siemens Digital Industries Software is your place to thrive. Whether you're a current student, recent graduate or postgraduate, our internship programmes provide the opportunity to work on real projects, learn from experienced professionals, build valuable technical skills and contribute to the future of industrial software and Artificial Intelligence. #ssp
