**Topic:**
AI-Assisted Testing Strategy & Tooling for Physics Simulation Software.
**Position Overview**
We are looking for an ambitious, hands-on software engineering or computer science intern to join our physics agile development team in Villeurbanne, near Lyon (France) for a 6-month internship.
In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping our validation workflows by evaluating advanced testing strategies and building custom internal tools. By developing utilities that simplify test creation and support, you will directly empower our development team to scale automation effortlessly. You will leverage AI coding assistants and modern testing tools to analyze how we can transition our existing manual test suites into robust automated workflows, establish team best practices, and integrate these solutions into our CI/CD pipelines. Your work will ensure our next release cycle runs smoothly without manual test bottlenecks.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Testing Strategy Evaluation: Research, benchmark, and evaluate modern testing methodologies, automation strategies, and tooling suited for complex physics simulation software.
* Tooling Development: Build internal tools, helper utilities, and CLI extensions that facilitate test creation, maintenance, and debugging for the developer team.
* AI-Driven Workflow Prototyping: Integrate AI tools and coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot) into the test authoring workflow to accelerate test generation and establish team best practices.
* Manual-to-Automated Pilot Migration: Apply the evaluated strategies and tools to migrate high-priority manual test suites into reliable automated tests.
* CI/CD Integration: Connect the newly developed testing tools and test suites into our existing CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous, automated verification on every build.
* Developer Enablement & Documentation: Create clear documentation, examples, and onboarding guides so the team can easily adopt the new testing tools and write future tests without friction.
**This six-month internship is based in Villeurbanne, near Lyon (69), and starts from January 2027.**
**Qualifications**
Currently pursuing a higher education degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical field in France.
* Strong programming skills in Python and C++ (relevant to simulation and tooling).
* Familiarity with test automation frameworks (e.g., unittest, Squish, or similar).
* Understanding of CI/CD concepts and pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
* AI & Innovation Mindset: Enthusiastic about leveraging AI tools to build developer productivity tools and workflow efficiencies.
* Excellent collaboration and communication skills; able to work across agile teams, gather developer requirements, and evangelize testing best practices
