Role Description
**What to Expect**
Consider before submitting an application:
This position is expected to start May 2027 and continue through Summer term (ending approximately August 2027) or continuing into Fall 2027 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. Internship Program at Tesla
The Internship Recruiting Team is driven by the passion to recognize and develop emerging talent. Our year-round program places the best students in positions where they will grow technically, professionally, and personally through their experience working closely with their Manager, Mentor, and team. We are dedicated to providing an experience that allows the intern to experience life at Tesla by including them in projects that are critical to their team’s success.
About the Team
As a Software Engineer Intern on Tesla SI’s Inference Infrastructure team, you will help build the systems that power SI model development, validation, and deployment across custom SI hardware at scale.
Your work sits at the intersection of large-scale distributed infrastructure and cutting-edge SI hardware — the platform Compiler, SI, and Optimus teams depend on to develop and validate models on next-generation chips.
From cluster orchestration and hardware fleet management to inference pipelines and developer tooling, you will contribute to foundational systems that determine how fast the org can move from a trained model to a validated, deployed artifact.
**What You'll Do**
* Help scale the SI inference cluster the physical and software platform that runs SI workloads on custom SI hardware across thousands of boards
* Improve job scheduling, hardware onboarding, and cluster self-healing systems that keep the fleet running at high uptime
* Design and implement inference pipelines that unify evals, sims, rollouts, and visualizations across SI and Optimus teams
* Build developer tooling that makes compiler-produced artifacts easy to run, validate, and debug on real hardware at scale
* Contribute to flashing, inventory management, and fleet management infrastructure for different hardware generations
* Work closely with Compiler, SI, and Optimus teams to understand bottlenecks and build infrastructure that removes them
**What You'll Bring**
* Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with a graduation date between August 2027 and December 2027
* Strong programming skills in Python; familiarity with PyTorch, Go, or C++ is a plus - Coursework, research, or project experience with distributed systems, job orchestration, reliability, or backend infrastructure
* Understanding of low-level systems concepts such as networking, file systems, and process management
Familiarity with ML inference workloads and what makes them fast or slow at scale - Ability to navigate ambiguous problems, dive into unfamiliar codebases, and drive work to completion with limited oversight
#### **Benefits**
As a full-time Tesla Intern, you will be eligible for:
* Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction
* Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits
* Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans. Both have an option with a $0 payroll contribution
* Company Paid (Health Savings Account) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Medical Plan with HSA

* Earned Wage Access: Real-time pay access paid daily, subject to eligibility and schedule (applicable for below Sr. Managers levels)
