Civil Engineering Student Intern

Student intern interested in Civil Engineering to provide support to in-house Engineers in Construction Management for Valley Water capital construction projects. Job duties include: * Assist with review of engineering drawings and specifications. * Assist with construction field support including site observations, documentation, and coordination with inspectors. * Assist with organizing and maintaining RFI, submittal, change order, as-built, and other contract documentation. * Attend construction meetings and take notes. Learning objectives include: * Gain exposure to civil infrastructure construction projects. * Gain exposure to construction management practices including scheduling, cost tracking, and quality control. * Develop the ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications. * Understand the project life cycle from design through construction and close out. * Understand basic contract administration processes (RFIs, submittals, change orders). Knowledge: Basic understanding of civil engineering principles, including construction materials, methods, and terminology; Familiarity with engineering drawings and specifications; Office practices, methods, and standard computer applications related to the work; English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation. Skills and abilities: Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and other engineering documents; Ability to observe construction activities and identify discrepancies or issues; Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines; Ability to use computer equipment and standard software applications; Ability to perform site visits at active construction sites and follow safety protocols, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE); Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Basic analytical and problem-solving skills. Degree field of study: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering *​​​​​​​Ability to pass Background, Drug Screen and if applicable Medical Screenings (i.e. Vision, Hearing, or Physical) if Required by Client.* Medical, dental, vision, ancillary coverage and 401k benefits are available.
