**Department Information** -------------------------- **Applications will be considered from residents and non-residents of Colorado.** **Two positions are available.** **These internships are paid temporary part-time up to full-time positions (minimum 24 hours/week)** **These positions are limited to a maximum of 9 months from the date of hire.** In addition to being a fantastic place to work, CDOT offers all temporary employees paid sick leave. The Statewide \& Regional Planning Section is responsible for facilitating and directing the Colorado statewide transportation planning process, including the development of the long-range statewide multimodal transportation plan and the integration of the Department’s other modal plans. The Section is also responsible for working with the five Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and ten rural Transportation Planning Regions (TPRs) and assisting them in the development of their Regional Transportation Plans. **About the Positions** These positions will participate in the development of materials that help implement ongoing planning projects including but not limited to, Statewide and Regional Multimodal Transportation Planning, Transportation Policy and Data Analysis, and Public Outreach Activities. **Major duties and responsibilities** include, but are not limited to: * Support planning work as needed for various CDOT units including: the Office of Multimodal Planning, the Office of Freight Mobility and Safety, the Innovative Mobility Office and the Office of Performance and Asset Management by: + Development of materials and participation in activities to support implementation of the 2050 Statewide Transportation Plan. + Supporting analysis of bicycle \& pedestrian, freight and other multimodal transportation infrastructure as needed across the state using inventory data and GIS skillsets (including supporting the scoring of quantitative elements for upcoming grant calls, using the PACE tool and its underlying GIS layers). + Assisting in the creation/conversion and/or development and management of the CDOT accessible transportation planning webpages, complying with current State digital accessibility standards. + Creating materials such as maps, charts, diagrams, fact sheets, illustrations, handouts, website graphics, infographics, reports, and slide decks that convey planning concepts that resonate with non-technical audiences. This involves both graphics development and layout. * Assist in statewide and regional public outreach and communications projects, including the Statewide Transportation Advisory Committee (STAC) and other transportation planning partner and advisory committee meetings with Transportation Planning Regions (TPRs) and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs). * Assist in documenting duties, tasks and responsibilities of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) Manager position and assist in creating working procedures for the position. (The Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) is a federally required, fiscally constrained, four-year program of planned transportation projects. The current STIP covers FY 2026 - FY 2029\.) * Assist with the management of large datasets/tables on various software and platforms for the STIP and 10-Year Vision Plan. * Perform research on state-of-the-practice data analysis for transportation policy, public engagement, technology and economic activities and develop methodologies for implementation. * Develop communication tools from the results of data analysis that are geared to a wide variety of audiences. * Conduct statistical and geospatial analysis of transportation, demographic, economic, and other datasets as needed. * Participate in special projects and miscellaneous tasks as needed to support the activities of the Division of Transportation Development, including clerical and organizational tasks. * Utilize the following: Google Suite/Google App, Gemini AI, Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. **Work Environment:** * These positions are based at CDOT's Statewide Headquarters office in Denver * Expected work schedule is between Monday and Friday * It is anticipated that these positions will work a minimum of 24 hours per week **Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment \& Appeal Rights** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ **Minimum Qualifications** **Qualified candidates** must be: * Any college student enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university seeking an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree in the following: Business Administration, Finance, Communications, Data Management, Planning (financial, regional, transportation or urban), Political Science, Sustainability, Public Administration or a closely related field. **(A copy of your transcript showing all coursework,** **including your current coursework** **must be attached to your online application.)** **OR** * A recent college graduate. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or university and have graduated with Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree in the following: Business Administration, Finance, Communications, Data Management, Planning (financial, regional, transportation or urban), Political Science, Sustainability, Public Administration or a closely related field. **(A copy of your transcript showing that a degree was conferred must be attached to your online application.)** **OR** * A certified participant in the Colorado Refugee Program. **Unless applying as a certified participant in the Colorado Refugee Program, a copy of your transcripts including your name, the school name, all coursework, including current coursework and degree(s) conferred. must be included.
